HYRUM, Cache County — Officials evacuated the buildings around a Wells Fargo bank following a robbery Tuesday.

At about 5:50 p.m. Tuesday, a man walked into a bank at 10 E. Main Street in Hyrum and demanded money.

The robber said during the incident that he had an explosive device, and witnesses said he held a small object in his hand. He eventually left the bank on foot with an undisclosed amount of money and without a known vehicle.

The evacuation, which occurred just before closing time, occurred while three employees remained inside the bank. Deputies from the Cache County Sheriff's Office removed everyone from the bank, nearby businesses and the Hyrum Library and searched the bank with the county's bomb squad, but did not find the device.

Deputies from the Cache County Sheriff's Office responded to the robbery. While en route, an employee contacted dispatch and informed them the bank had been robbed and the suspect had fled the scene.

Police described the suspect as a 5-foot-5 white male with long brown hair and a handlebar-style mustache. He was wearing a long sleeve shirt, cargo shorts, a wide-brimmed hat and glasses.

The incident is being investigated with help from the FBI's Salt Lake City office. Anyone who has information regarding the suspect or the incident is encouraged to contact the Cache County Sheriff's Office at 435-755-1000 or the Logan City Dispatch Center at 435-753-7555.

More information will be released as it is made available.
