Greenville, SC — People driving north on Interstate 85 between I-385 and Pelham Road encountered an unusual shower on Monday morning.

Cash was seen fluttering through the air, according to emergency dispatchers.

Dispatchers said they received calls from drivers who reported that a door had come open on an armored truck and the loot it carried was spilling onto the Interstate around 8 a.m.

Troopers and Greenville County sheriff's deputies were called to the area.

All of the loose money had been collected as of 1:20 p.m. Monday, Greenville Deputy Drew Pinciaro said in a written statement.

Deputies are asking people to stop looking for loot on the interstate.

"We are getting reports that people are still stopping on I-85 and getting out to look for money, which is causing traffic problems and accidents," Pinciaro said.

A driver who witnessed the money shower said people were stopping on the side of the road and trying to pick up the money from the roadway.

People who took money could be charged with petty or grand larceny depending on the amount, deputies say.
