SALT LAKE CITY — A woman who police say attempted to burn some of her live-in boyfriend's property was arrested for investigation of multiple counts of aggravated arson over the weekend.

Salt Lake police and fire crews were called to an apartment complex, 400 N. Center St., just after 8 p.m. Saturday. A woman had reportedly been trying to start her apartment on fire, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report. When officers arrived, they found smoke coming from her apartment.

The boyfriend told police that the woman "placed several items on the oven and used paint thinner as an accelerant," the report states.

Firefighters found several rugs, a pillow, a blanket and a mattress that were burned. Damage was estimated at $5,000. No other apartment units were damaged.

Tisha Hackford, 26, of Salt Lake City, was arrested for investigation of eight counts of aggravated arson. When she was arrested, officers found a lighter in her pocket, according to the report.

In February, Hackford was charged in 3rd District Court with two counts of aggravated assault after allegedly attacking her 66-year-old live-in boyfriend with a knife and strangling him with a mesh grocery bag, according to charging documents. The case was dismissed in May when the state's witnesses did not show up for court.

In June, Hackford pleaded guilty to attempted escape from custody after punching a nurse in the nose during a visit to a medical facility while she was a Salt Lake County Jail inmate, according to court records.

In 2012 she was sentenced to six months in jail for attempting to take another person's bank card and attempted drug possession.
