President Boyd K. Packer dies at age 90
Officials with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced Friday that President Boyd K. Packer has died.
He died at 2 p.m. of causes incident to age, according to a statement from the church. He was 90 years old and died at home. President Packer was the president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
In the April 2010 General Conference, President Packer spoke of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and the faith he loved. He delivered his talk while sitting because of the physical challenges of aging.
Man saves 8-year-old sister-in-law from drowning
An 8-year-old girl nearly drowned at Blackridge Reservoir Saturday.
Police say her brother-in-law likely saved her life.
The girl was with swimming in the reservoir with her older sister and her sister's husband when the husband spotted her 30 feet from the shore, lying face down in the water, police said.
Lloyd scores 3 and US defeats Japan 5-2 for World Cup title
Carli Lloyd came up big again. Three times.
And with it came the Americans' elusive third Women's World Cup title.
Lloyd scored a hat trick as the U.S. burst to a four-goal lead in the first 16 minutes, and the Americans overwhelmed defending champion Japan 5-2 Sunday for their record third championship and first since 1999.
Police: South Jordan burglars may be tied to similar crimes
A group of at least four men broke into Travis Bonino's car and garage over the holiday weekend.
But the most disturbing thing about it to Bonino was how nonchalant the burglars were about it.
"I think the biggest thing is just they didn't care. They weren't nervous. … Obviously they weren't worried if someone walked out," he said.
Minor quake shakes parts of southern Utah
A minor earthquake shook portions of southern Utah late Saturday morning, but there were no reports of damage.
The University of Utah Seismograph Stations says the epicenter of the magnitude-4.0 temblor was beneath the southern part of the town of Panguitch, on the eastern edge of the Markagunt Plataeu.
The 10 a.m. earthquake was reported felt mainly in Panguitch. A magnitude-2.3 aftershock occurred nine minutes later.
