LEHI — Lehi building inspectors are scheduled to examine a house Monday where four people were injured when their elevated deck collapsed during a Fourth of July party.

Fifteen people were on the deck in back of the house, 1988 N. Hidden Creek Drive, when it collapsed just before 7 p.m., said Lehi Fire Battalion Chief Tim Robinson. Four people were transported to a local hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening. One man suffered a serious back injury.

Updated conditions of the four victims were not immediately available Sunday.

The group was participating in a barbecue. Tables and a grill were also on the deck at the time of the collapse.

Robinson said one area the building inspectors will look at is whether the deck was properly bolted to the house. The house is approximately 10 to 15 years old. Neighbors, however, said the deck was relatively new.

Robinson did not know Sunday whether the family had used the deck for a large gathering before. He said there was no indication that those attending the barbecue were jumping up down or doing anything more than simply standing on the structure.
