GOTHAM — From the man who brought us “Talk Nerdy to Me” and “Dark Lord Funk” comes a new parody involving two unlikely bedfellows — Batman and British boy band One Direction.

Creator Keith Allen said the idea for his newest video came from a fan suggestion. He thought it could be a fun idea, but he knew it wasn’t going to be as upbeat as his other videos.

“This will be a little different, and that’s fine. Switch things up a bit and go with the more chill song, but still have that funny juxtaposition there of who’s singing it — what it’s about in contrast to the One Direction boy band,” Allen said.

Allen said it also didn’t hurt that One Direction has a massive fan base, so he started paying attention to the band’s songs on the radio.

“At the time, ‘Night Changes’ was starting to go big on the radio,” Allen said. “And I was like, ‘Oh, I can do Dark Knight Changes and make it a Batman parody.’”

Once the idea clicked, Allen let it roll around in his head for a while before he began writing the lyrics and beginning the 3-month process of production.

The premise of the parody puts Batman villains into an unlikely boy band, lamenting the fact that Batman keeps changing with each reboot. Joker, Riddler, Bane, Penguin and Two-Face (with a little Catwoman thrown in), each sing their laments, saying all the changes are only adding chaos.

“Signal turned on, we know that he’s coming out / The changing mask is causing too much chaos now / All Gotham sees is a freak, like myself,” Joker croons from the depths of his twisted heart.

Once again, Allen pulled from the wealth of talent in Utah to star in the video, as well as finding help for costumes and makeup. He reached out to Cosplay Utah on Facebook to flesh out his villainous boy band, which yielded about 50 enthusiastic responses. Additionally, if you’re familiar with Allen’s former videos, you may recognize a few faces, including Keith Evans from “Talk Nerdy to Me” and Elijah Thomas from “Dark Lord Funk.”

If One Direction isn’t your thing, don’t worry, Allen is already working on several more parodies, which include a Star Trek parody called “Drop It Like It’s Spock,” a two-video Star Wars parody and maybe even a Hobbit parody.

Full credits and lyrics for the video can be found in the video description on YouTube.
