PROVO — Colton Shaver will cap off a stellar freshman campaign for BYU by participating in the TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby. Shaver is one of three freshman competing in the home run derby, and of those three, Shaver hit the most home runs (13), good enough for top 50 in the nation and best in the West Coast Conference.

Here are the other seven long-ball hitters Shaver is up against:

  • Will Craig (Wake Forest)
  • Jeff Campbell (North Dakota)
  • Zack Collins (Miami)
  • Kel Johnson (Georgia Tech)
  • Joe Dunand (North Carolina State)
  • Kyle Lewis (Mercer)
  • Eric Gutierrez (Texas Tech)

Only Collins and Lewis finished with more home runs than Shaver, with 15 and 17, respectively (Craig also hit 13 home runs).

The Jordan High School product finished with a .313 batting average, 16 doubles and 42 RBIs.

Shaver hit two home runs in each of two games versus the University of Utah. He also hit multiple home runs versus Utah Valley and Saint Mary's. Before BYU, Shaver was named a Louisville Slugger All-American, Utah Mr. Baseball and was the Utah Gatorade Player of the Year.

In 2015 Shaver was named to the WCC All-Freshman team, Second-team All-WCC and the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team.

BYU baseball head coach Mike Littlewood will pitch to Shaver for the derby.

The sixth annual TD Ameritrade College Home Run Derby is Thursday, July 2, at 8:30 p.m. EST on ESPN. The event is at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska.
