DRAPER — A Corner Canyon High School student was found dead on a mountainside Thursday afternoon, police said.

Officials identified the student only as a teenage boy and declined to release his name and age.

There are no indications of foul play or that anyone else was with the boy when he died, said Draper Police Sgt. Chad Carpenter. A definitive cause of death wasn't immediately apparent, according to Carpenter.

"It’s just a tragedy all the way around," he said. "Anytime a young person loses their life, it’s a tragedy."

The boy's body was reportedly discovered near a trail in the Corner Canyon area between the Ghost Falls and Coyote trailheads about 3:45 p.m. The discovery was called into police by passerby.

The body was sent to the state medical examiner to determine a cause of death.

Grief counselors were sent to Corner Canyon High School on Thursday to assist students. Counselors will also be available at the school Friday.
