WEST VALLEY CITY — A 5-year-old boy was hospitalized with a broken leg Tuesday night after falling from a third-story window, fire officials said.

The boy fell just prior to 9 p.m. after leaning on a window screen in an apartment at 5301 W. White Horse Lane, apparently thinking the window was closed, said West Valley Fire Battalion Chief Chris Beichner.

The boy reportedly landed on a 3-foot-tall air conditioning unit. He didn't show signs of any other injuries and was fully alert, Beichner said.

The child was taken to Jordan Valley Medical Center and later airlifted to another hospital as a precaution.
