OGDEN — With summer driving upon us, the Utah Highway Patrol is taking a new tack to encourage road safety — your children.
Trooper Colby Vanderbeek from UHP hosts a series of four videos, asking kids from Polk Elementary questions about road safety. UHP hopes presenting old messages of increased driving vigilance in a new and unique way will help everyone in Utah stay safer on the roads, according to a press release.
Each video poses a new question or talking point that the children answer sincerely, thoughtfully and honestly. Vandeerbek asks the kids about their parents’ driving habits, the importance of seat belts, what they would do if they were officers pulling someone over, and how they would get out of a ticket.
Even though the children obviously take the questions seriously, there are some humorous answers straight from the mouths of babes. (Pro tip: Watch for the boy in the green and blue plaid shirt, especially in the video “How to Get Out of a Ticket.”)
No matter the presentation, including a strong reminder that your children notice your driving habits, the UHP message is always the same:
“The summer travel season begins soon and as many people hit the road for vacation, the UHP wants to remind everyone to always buckle up and drive safely.”
