SALT LAKE CITY — It's been a slow week in the nerd world, unless you have kept up with comics. If that’s the case, you’re dealing with the death of some iconic adversaries in the DC Universe and the destruction of the Marvel Universe in “Secret Wars.”

This week there isn’t too much new coming out. Everything is rolling on smoothly while movies are being set to release or finish production. That being said there is still news and noteworthy things coming out.

Ready to believe again

“The X-Files” is back and ready to go. Agent Fox Mulder — David Duchovny — and agent Dana Scully — Gillian Anderson — get back together to try to seek the mysteries of the skies again.

The original run of the series came to a close in 2002 while Duchovny and Anderson moved on to different careers, mostly staying in the TV world. They came together last in 2008’s “X-Files: I Want to Believe.” Also returning is original creator and show runner Chris Carter.

Lots of the original cast has come back to the series. While there isn’t more than rumors about the plot, there is a good possibility that aliens might be involved. The 13-episode miniseries will start January 2016.

Suicide Squad pictures

Suicide Squad has had its share of news, including last week’s Joker release. Now his main squeeze Harley Quinn, Margot Robbie, has her time in the sun. Well, this is actually her time in the rain, and it doesn’t look too warm or inviting.

There's a little bit of everything in the photo, including, and probably most interesting, the first photo of Margot Robbie in her Harley Quinn ensemble. Will Smith shows you the mask that will be blown off his face for more face time.

Harley Quinn has had some more pictures that were leaked on the Internet with a few nuggets to take from the pictures. Her choker says “Puddin” on it, a nod to her nickname of the Joker. Bruce Timm, DC executive and the character’s creator, said he liked the look and that she looked cute instead of creepy like he was afraid of.

Video game legend comes back to prove industry wrong

His name is Koji Igarashi and he wants to show that what he does is still the best. Igarashi, also known as IGA, is looking to get back into the gaming world with a game that looks very similar to his masterpieces in the Castlevania series. Igarashi is now back by creating Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Igarashi created 14 different Castlevania games over about a 15-year span from Symphony of the Night on the original PlayStation to a few Castlevania titles on the Wii and Nintendo DS.

IGA took to Kickstarter to show that the 2D side-scrolling action RPG is still a viable game. In the video for the crowdfunding website, he said that if there were backers showing support he would have the money from a studio to create the game.

As of writing this, the Kickstarter is over $750,000. The goal was $500,000 — I had to switch that number three times because it just kept going up. The highest stretch goal is $850,000, so that is going to happen with 32 days to go.

Supergirl gets a first season

CBS has joined the superhero game with “Supergirl” getting a full series. The story is of Kara Zor-El, played by Melissa Benoist, a Kryptonian stuck on earth balancing life and her powers. The first episodes are still out a bit, with the series still in production, but with this news it should be expected out in the 2015-16 season. This means it could be coming out this fall or as a shorter season next spring.

Rumor has it that the Fortress of Solitude scene in “Man of Steel” where an open pod is seen may be connected with Supergirl. This isn’t confirmed, but it’s been around as a possibility since the movie came out.

Pickup of the week

Man, the first issue of “Secret Wars” was really good. The start of something big and the second issue comes out this week. In the first issue we see the event that will change their comic universes by destroying them. Of course people survive, but now they have to find out what happened, where they are and how they can fix it.

Also, “Thor” issue eight promises to show the identity of the girl who has wielded the hammer of Thor. It's the last story before Jason Aaron changes the story to the Secret Wars styled “Thors.” In the DC Universe, their Convergence series is coming to a close with the sixth book of eight coming out this week.

Last but not least, “Saga” issue 28 comes out for Image comics along with “Birthright” and “Savior.” This week has a lot of good comics.
