AMERICAN FORK — Two hikers are safe after an overnight rescue in American Fork Canyon. Rescuers found the pair with the help of their GPS.

The man and woman got lost Monday night while hiking Tibble Fork Trail in American Fork Canyon, according to Sgt. Rhett Williams of the Utah County Sheriff's Office.

The mother of one of the hikers called police when the pair didn't return home around 11 p.m., Williams said.

Emergency dispatchers were able to contact the pair and "pinged" the GPS on their cell phone to track their location, according to Williams.

Rescue crews assisted them off the mountain around 1:30 a.m.

Williams said this serves as a reminder to hikers to carry warm clothes, food and water, a flashlight and a fully-charged cell phone.
