PROVO — With the 2015 college football schedule months away, let's take a look at intriguing matchups beyond 2015 for BYU football.

Michigan State (2016, 2020)

The Cougars currently have two meetings set up with Michigan State, on the road in 2016 and at home in 2020. The Spartans have recently ascended the ladder and are perennially one of the best teams in the Big 10 conference. The first game will be a great test in the post-Taysom Hill era and it will be interesting to see where BYU’s program is by 2020.

LSU (2017)

Any time you can play a team from the SEC, there is a lot of intrigue going into the game. The SEC has generally been known as the best conference in college football for the last decade. A chance to square off against one of its annual powers is a terrific challenge for BYU’s program. It is also exciting that the game will be played at a neutral NFL stadium in Houston.

Wisconsin (2018, 2019)

The Cougars are essentially playing a 2 for 1 with the Badgers, as the 2013 Cougars went to Madison as will the 2018 squad. In 2019, Wisconsin will come to Provo. Like Michigan State, Wisconsin is a yearly power in the Big 10 conference and in a recent interview, BYU coaching legend LaVell Edwards stated that Madison was his favorite road atmosphere to play in.

Mississippi State (2016, 2017)

In 2014, the Bulldogs were ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation for a few weeks. While Mississippi State was unable to retain their hold as the nation’s preeminent team, the program is an up-and-comer, and it will be interesting to see if they can maintain their spot as one of the nation’s best programs.

USC (2019, 2021)

The Trojans are a rare power five team that will play BYU in Provo first before they play the Cougars at home. USC is intriguing for a variety of reasons. First, they have one of the richest football histories in college football. On a more personal level, the Trojans are coached by former BYU quarterback Steve Sarkisian.

Stanford (2022, 2023, 2025)

Stanford is an intriguing matchup for BYU because the Cardinal has been a terrific program under Coach Shaw and because they have some things in common with the Cougars. Both schools are private and academically rigorous. These conditions serve in limiting the pool of athletes that the two schools can recruit.
