PARK CITY — Vail Resorts has announced new initiatives, expected to be in place by next ski season, which will infuse $50 million into Park City Mountain Resort and The Canyons in an attempt to revitalize both resorts after a difficult year.

Renovations, which will begin as soon as the ski areas close this season, will aim to connect the two resorts. They will include work done on two restaurants, a gondola, multiple lifts and even trails and snowmaking, according to Vail Resorts COO Bill Rock. All the improvements are scheduled to be completed before the beginning of next ski season.

“This is the single biggest capital investment of a ski resort in the United States ski industry that we know of,” said Rock. “It’s definitely transformational. It definitely got it back on everybody’s radar screen.”

Lindsey Vonn, among the most decorated female skiers of all time, is a spokesperson for Vail Resorts. She had good things to say about the renovations coming, in part, to the resort at which she competed in the 2002 Winter Olympics.

“I know all my local friends are really excited about it,” Vonn said. “Obviously if you go and ski the Canyons, it’s fun. But if you live near the Canyons, you don’t want to go to Park City (Mountain Resort), it’s just too far to drive. So this is just going to be a perfect way to connect everything and allow people to have better access to the entire resort.”
