LEHI — Police have identified Noreen Macbean, 37, as the cyclist who was killed Saturday when her bicycle collided with a semitrailer.

Macbean, of American Fork, was on a training ride with the A Bloc Cycling Club when the accident occurred. About 100 riders were participating in the training ride, though only one other person was with Macbean at the time, according to an A Bloc representative.

Details were still unclear of how Macbean was hit, but Lehi police said she was traveling the same direction as the truck she collided with near 2600 N. 1200 West on Saturday morning.

An investigation into the collision is ongoing, Lehi police confirmed.

Macbean's friends in the biking group remembered her Sunday as an uplifting friend and "a mother to a lot of people."

"She would talk about the goals for her year and usually her goals were set around who she was going to help," said Kim Casper, remembering conversations with Macbean on their annual snowshoeing trip.

Casper and Macbean had participated in several memorial rides together. Now, A Bloc cycling is planning a memorial ride in Macbean's honor.

Macbean was training for triathlons with her husband, Allen, Casper said. Amidst her love for adventure, Macbean was always careful.

"She follows the rules of the road, she's never careless," Macbean said.

Shane Morris, another friend of the group, was behind Macbean when the collision occurred. When he came upon the scene, police had arrived.

"We found out she was killed instantly," Morris said. "It could have been five seconds before or five seconds after and it wouldn't have happened. … Something like this can happen in an instant."

A GoFundMe account* has been set up for Macbean's funeral expenses.
