LOGAN — In Utah State quarterback Chuckie Keeton’s first live-action test since suffering a season-ending knee injury three weeks into last season, the senior from Houston completed 11 of 18 passes for 173 yards and three touchdowns in the Aggies’ first scrimmage of spring camp Friday.

“It was fun to get out,” Utah State coach Matt Wells said in a statement. “It was great weather and there was really good competition early. There was a lot of good give and take, actually. We ran the ball on offense pretty good on the perimeter.”

Keeton found wide receiver Hunter Sharp for two of his three scoring strikes during the 100-snap scrimmage at Romney Stadium. The senior wide receiver caught four passes for 133 yards, including a 42-yard touchdown on the final play of the two-minute drill portion of the scrimmage to end a seven-play, 70-yard drive.

“The two-minute drill was a plus for one team and a negative for another,” Wells added. “We haven’t done a tremendous amount of situation football until now, but it’s good to start getting them into that stuff.”

The offense totaled five touchdowns and two field goals on the evening. In addition to the pair of strikes to Sharp, Keeton found tight end Wyatt Houston for a six-yard TD pass and wide receiver Braelon Roberts for a 2-yard score.

Rashad Hall piled up 34 yards and a touchdown on seven carries, and junior Devante Mays added 21 yards on 13 carries. Redshirt sophomore Tonny Lindsey also scored on a 5-yard run for the Aggies.

Utah State piled up 100 yards on 44 carries on the ground.

Brock Warren kicked a 42-yard field goal, and Jake Thompson added a 26-yard strike through the uprights for the Aggies, who got a safety and 12 tackles for loss from the defense.

Cornerback Tyler Floyd led the defense with six tackles, and senior linebacker Jarom Baldomero added five tackles.

The Aggies will return to football next week with spring camp, finishing off with their second scrimmage on April 3 at 3:30 p.m. MT at Romney Stadium. The annual Blue and White spring game is scheduled for April 11 at 2 p.m. MT also at Romney Stadium.
