SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints recently released a video for the Easter season about Christ.

The video accompanies an initiative sponsored by the church’s missionary department titled Because He Lives, focused on Christ’s teachings, according to a news release.

Greg Droubay, director of media for the church’s missionary department, said “The Living Christ,” a published testimony of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles for the LDS Church, was the inspiration for the initiative, according to the news release.

“That unique document that is signed by living prophets, seers and revelators bearing witness as only they can of Jesus Christ has provided the inspiration, the foundation, the invitation that we’ve wanted to extend to the world,” Droubay said in a statement.

Droubay said the message will be taken to “almost every country in the world.”

Daily content featuring “examples of the blessings available to us in our daily lives” will be available on Mormon.org social media pages the week of Easter, beginning March 28 and ending April 5. Internet users are encouraged to use the hashtag #BecauseHeLives when sharing this content on social sites.

The First Presidency of the LDS Church will email members “inviting them to participate in the initiative.”

The initiative website, HeLives.mormon.org, includes information about the last week of Christ’s life in addition to the video, which is available in 21 languages, and more information about Jesus Christ.

A shortened version of the video with a link to the website will be on the YouTube masthead in nine countries Easter Sunday, “reaching a potential audience of 250 million viewers.”

“This opportunity on YouTube provides an unparalleled experience for the church to reach a global audience in a single day,” Droubay said in a statement.

“We’re very interested in increasing teaching opportunities for our full-time missionaries,” Droubay said.

LDS missionaries will carry pass-along cards to spread the message throughout the Easter season and the year. These cards are available for purchase online.

All the church’s visitors centers in the United States in addition to the visitors centers at the Mexico City Temple and at the Hyde Park Chapel in London will also promote the initiative by housing displays during the season, Droubay said, according to the news release.

This initiative is similar to the #BecauseofHim and #ShareTheGift initiatives released by the church last year during Easter and Christmas.

“So each of these initiatives and even moving towards Christmas and other holidays will continue to focus on Jesus Christ with these messages building on each other,” Droubay said in a statement.
