DINOSAUR, Colorado — Authorities from a number of law enforcement agencies are investigating an apparent officer-involved shooting that briefly closed U.S. 40 in Moffatt County on Monday.

The highway was closed in both directions about 2:30 p.m. after a police incident occurred 8 miles east of Dinosaur.

An ambulance and medical helicopter from nearby Vernal were called to the scene, where one person had been shot, according multiple sources in Utah. The helicopter was canceled while it was still en route to Colorado.

A Colorado state wildlife officer was seen being examined by other law enforcement officers at the scene just before 5 p.m. He had a small bandage on the center of his forehead and did not have a gun in his holster.

Colorado authorities have declined to answer any questions about the incident. They have focused their attention on a vehicle that is parked halfway up a hillside just north of U.S. 40 and have brought in a portable light tower, indicating that they may continue their work after dark.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
