AMAZON RAIN FOREST — In the mood for a quick zipline ride through the jungle?

With the help of Google Street View, viewers can now enjoy the Amazon rain forest from the comfort of their desk. The company sent one of its cameras down a zipline at speeds of up to 62 mph to capture 360-degree views of the treetop canopy.

While viewers are in Street View, they can also float down nearby rivers and visit 17 Amazon communities. The project is part of a collaborative effort launched with the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation to protect the area, according to Google.

“Their hope is that sharing the imagery of their local communities, rain forests and rivers with the world will raise awareness and support for their efforts to conserve these areas,” a statement from Google Street View reads. “Collected through the Trekker Loan Program, this new imagery is the result of boating down 500 km of rivers, walking 20 km of forest trails and ziplining through forest canopies.”

The images can be viewed online.
