OGDEN — Orem coach Golden Holt felt his team got off to a good start in the 4A tournament Tuesday with a win over Highland.
The confidence has to have grown, as the Tigers advanced to the 4A semifinals with a 62-48 victory over Timpview in the 4A tournament at the Dee Events Center in Ogden.
The Thunderbirds dropped 81 points in their opening game against Sky View, and made 8-of-9 free throws in the win. However, the Tigers’ defense significantly limited Timpview’s effectiveness, holding the team to just 39.5 percent shooting.
Orem outscored Timpview in each of the first three quarters and held a 25-15 halftime lead. While the Tigers held a 15-point lead going into the fourth quarter, both teams erupted offensive in the fourth quarter, with Timpview having a narrow 27-26 run.
Orem’s Wilhelm Clark led all scorers with 20 points, while Richard Harward contributed 10 points and 11 rebounds. Hayden Young also scored 19 points for the Tigers.
Britain Covey, who finished with 18 points, led Timpview.
The Tigers will play Bountiful in a semifinal game Friday at the Dee Events Center.
