ROOSEVELT — The man critically injured in a collision Wednesday night was identified Thursday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. near 800 West and U.S. 40, according to Roosevelt police officer Alex Thompson. A 17-year-old male drove his car out of a driveway and began turning left across the highway's westbound lanes to go east on U.S. 40.
As he was crossing the lanes, he spotted a motorcycle coming toward him in the westbound lane and tried to stop, Thompson said. The 17-year-old told police the motorcyclist “gunned it” in an apparent effort to get around him, but the car and the motorcycle collided in the middle of U.S. 40.
The motorcyclist was identified as Quinn Alan McDonough, 27, of Roosevelt. He was airlifted to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition.
The 17-year-old driving the car was ejected during the accident and was transported to Uintah Basin Medical Center. He was treated and released Wednesday night, Thompson said. An 11-year-old girl riding in the car was uninjured in the accident.
Police are not releasing the name of the 17-year-old. No citations have been issued, and the accident is still under investigation.
