BOX ELDER COUNTY — The Humane Society of Utah announced Wednesday it is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the illegal killing of two fawns and a pregnant doe in Box Elder County.

The poaching case occurred around Feb. 14 near a grain field on the Long Divide Road in Box Elder County between Fielding and Newton, according to a Division of Wildlife Resources news release. Conservation officers found three dead deer in the field and after investigating, concluded someone had chased the two fawns and a pregnant doe through the field before running them over with a vehicle, the news release said.

“This goes beyond poaching,” Humane Society executive director Gene Baierschmidt said in a news release. “This was senseless and intentional animal cruelty that cannot be tolerated in our society.”

The Humane Society said it hopes the reward will assist the DWR in obtaining information to identify and charge whoever is responsible for running the three deer down with a vehicle.

Anyone with information about any of these deer can call the Utah Turn in a Poacher (UTiP) hotline at 1-800-662-3337. Tipsters can remain anonymous and the DWR said rewards are available to those who provide information that leads to the apprehension and successful prosecution of individuals involved in the poaching.
