Whether it's your first kid or your fifth, buying baby food can take its toll on the family budget. Popular baby foods regularly cost $1 or more for 6-7 ounces. If a one year old eats 7-14 ounces per setting, that adds up quickly and your budget will feel it.

In fact, according to Parenting.com, "Parents can count on spending close to $50 per week on diapers, formula and baby food alone."

Even national studies show how food costs for kids aren't a laughing matter. Angela Tagtow, Executive Director of USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion, said "Food is among the top three expenses in raising children." Tagtow continued, "Parents have the challenge of providing food that is not only healthful and delicious, but also affordable."

To better assist parents and take away some of the added costs of baby food, we've developed 10 recipes to help you make your own healthful and delicious baby foods without breaking the bank. And remember, with any recipe please make sure the food has cooled properly before serving it to a child.
