Editor's Note: The victim's name was initially incorrectly reported as "Houston" per the Utah Highway Patrol. The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office provided new information and the name has been corrected to "Huston."TAYLORSVILLE — A woman who worked for the Salt Lake County Jail was killed in a collision Friday morning.

The accident occurred around 7 a.m. near the intersection of 5400 South and Redwood Road, according to Utah Highway Patrol. Jill Huston, 50, of West Jordan, was driving a white Buick Regal northbound on Redwood Road when her vehicle was struck in the intersection by a black Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling eastbound on 5400 South, UHP said.

Huston was transported to Intermountain Medical Center, where she died as a result of her injuries. She was a civilian employee with the Salt Lake County Jail and, as a result, Utah Highway Patrol was asked to investigate the accident.

"We're very devastated. Obviously our thoughts and well wishes go to her family. Just a huge loss for us today," said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Cammie Skogg.

Skogg said Huston had worked at the jail for seven years. She started off working in the warehouse and got to know a lot of the jail staff by delivering supplies. She was currently working as a control room operator for the jail, Skogg said.

Because the control room operators work eight hours a day in a small room, they all get to know each other well. Skogg said Huston was a "very active" part of the office and "was very well liked." In addition to her regular duties, Skogg said Huston was involved in many extracurricular activities surrounding the sheriff's office and jail, such as helping to plan parades and other events.

It was unclear if the driver of the pickup truck was injured and details of the cause of the accident were not immediately available. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
