MIDVALE — A man was taken to the hospital in critical condition after being struck by a car Tuesday night, police said.

Around 8 p.m., a man was crossing east to west over 900 East, on the north side of Fort Union Blvd., when a northbound Subaru Legacy “struck the pedestrian, carried him for a short distance then came to rest,” said Lt. Justin Hoyal, of the Unified Police Department.

The man was crossing in a crosswalk but against the red light, Hoyal said.

Unified Fire took the man, reportedly in critical condition, to an Intermountain Medical Center. The name of the victim was not immediately available Tuesday night.

Hoyal said the 36-year-old male driver of the Subaru stayed on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Northbound traffic on 900 East will be “closed for a couple of hours” while investigators process the scene. Southbound 900 East and Fort Union Blvd. are open to traffic, Hoyal said.

More information will be posted when it’s available.
