SALT LAKE CITY — Streaming media devices have gained mainstream popularity and seem to be here for the long haul.

Apple TV was the first device to gain popularity, but Google’s Chromecast has taken the market by storm in recent months. In fact, in December 2014, Chromecast was the No. 5 "most Googled" tech gadget of the year. Its search numbers were topped only by products with significant launches, like iPhone 6, Samsung Galaxy s5, Nexus 6 and Apple Watch.

App developers across the world have responded to Chromecast’s surge in usage. Hasbro, the gaming giant, and other game makers have recently released several Chromecast-capable games. The games are unique in that they can be played by various users who each use their personal smartphone or tablet. As long as there’s a Wi-Fi connection, the gamers can join in and play along with the TV in the room.

Below are descriptions of five popular Chromecast games for groups of all ages and sizes. Demos can be found above.

Players spin the wheel and guess letters on their device while viewing the traditional board on the screen. This game includes modes for a single player, multiple players with a single device, and multiple players with multiple devices.
