SALT LAKE CITY — Senior guards Delon Wright and Tyler Haws were named to the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 Wednesday.
Wright is one of three players from the Pac-12 named to the list, including Arizona’s Stanley Johnson and Stanford’s Chasson Randle. Wright is averaging 14.9 points, 5.7 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game this season. He was recently named the top overall basketball player in Sporting News’ rankings.
Wright leads Utah in scoring, assists, steals and assists-to-turnover ratio and has been instrumental in the team’s Associated Press Top 25 ranking and 13-2 record.
Haws, who is currently tied for third in the nation in points scored per game (22.1), is one of three players from the West Coast Conference named to the list, including Gonzaga’s Kevin Pangos and Kyle Wiltjer. Haws is averaging 22.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.
Haws leads BYU in scoring and free throws made to help the Cougars with its 14-5 record.
Wright and Haws were both named to the preseason Top 50 list in November. The list is chosen by a poll of national college basketball analysts.
A total of 15 players will make the final cut before voters will name a winner at the end of the basketball season.
