NIBLEY, Cache County — A 14-year-old boy is being hailed a hero after he saved a woman who was struggling in the Logan River.
It was almost a fluke that Caleb Postma was out at the river fishing Tuesday afternoon. He had already been fishing that day and had to beg his mom to let him go back.
If Caleb hadn't wanted to go fishing again, and if his mom hadn't agreed, he would never have come across a woman crying for help on the bank of the river.
"She was still shivering and wet, so I gave her my jacket and found a walking stick for her. Then I helped her towards a gate that was near the edge of the property and helped her through," Caleb said.
He flagged down a car, then he and the driver called 911.
It turns out the unidentified woman had become disoriented and wandered into the river near LeGrande Street.
She was treated for hypothermia, but doctors said she's going to be all right — thanks to Caleb coming across her at nearly the last minute.
Caleb told KSL News he was excited to help, but is shy about the word "hero" in this situation.
