AMERICAN FORK – Former Utah defensive coordinator Kalani Sitaki officially traded in his Utah red for Oregon State orange three days ago, and it didn't take him long to start tapping Utah's recruits.
KSL has learned that American Fork running back and linebacker Zach Katoa has picked up a scholarship offer to play football at Oregon State, less than a week after Sitaki and Utah defensive line coach Ilaisa Tuiaki joined the Beavers' coaching staff.
Former Utah State and Wisconsin coach Gary Andersen was named the Oregon State head coach after longtime veteran Mike Riley was appointed to the same role at Nebraska. Andersen, Sitaki and Tuiaki are all former Utah assistant coaches who have other strong connections to the Beehive State, as well.
Katoa averaged 118.1 yards per game for 1,653 yards and 25 touchdowns as a senior this past season. The senior from American Fork also had 43 tackles and two interceptions for the Cavemen, who lost to Bingham in the Class 5A state title game.
Utah State was the first to offer the 6-foot-1 Katoa, who also has offers from Weber State and Army.
