THE HEART STRINGS — It’s the week of Christmas and it’s hard not to focus on what we’re getting or what fun activities we have planned. It’s human nature. As we all know, however, this is a special time of year that means so much more than gifts and outings. It’s also about family and love.

Too often we don’t give our children enough credit. We want them to be more caring, patient and perceptive, and we want them to not just focus on presents and what Santa will bring them for Christmas. Well, maybe they are focused on more, but we don’t give them the chance to express that.

IKEA put together this video called, “The Other Letter.” Yes, it’s a promotional video trying to get you to buy more furniture you can’t pronounce, but those creative ad folks know how to hit an emotional chord.

Several kids were asked to write a letter to Santa expressing what they wanted for Christmas. It took no time at all for these little ones to jot down all the toys and games they’re wishing for this Christmas. Following that letter, the kids were then asked to write a letter to their parents and what they’d ask them for Christmas.

This second letter took a bit more thought, but in its own adorable way it’s beautiful what these kids asked for.

It’s a good reminder that we as parents can get caught up in the holidays and forget that our kids may need more than toys and cookies this year.
