SALT LAKE CITY — A broken pipe on the sixth floor of the Salt Lake County District Attorney's offices at 111 E. Broadway Ave. damaged office space on three floors and may displace attorneys and support personnel while repairs are made.
Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill briefed the Salt Lake County Council Tuesday on the incident, which he described as a "significant event."
The pipe burst on the floor of the building's sixth level, apparently on Sunday or early Monday. Water damaged offices on the fifth, fourth and third floors of the office. Gill said 200 fans were in use attempting to dry carpet and other parts of the office.

The teams in the district attorney's office affected by the flood include its juvenile prosecutors, gang team, attorneys who screen cases and victim witness counselors who help prepare witnesses who testify in court among others.
Gill said it appears that certain teams will need to relocated while the building is repaired.
Attorneys have worked at tables and chairs and the office has "cannibalized" available space in the building to work, dry out documents and conduct meetings.
It appears that the fourth- and fifth-floor space will need to be vacated for several weeks while repairs take place, which will complicate matters, he said.
The district attorney leases space in the building. Crews from the county and the building's owners have been responding to the cleanup efforts, Gill said.
"This was a significant potential impact. We want you to be aware of that," he said.
