SPRINGVILLE — Police officers have a lot of responsibilities, but Springville police Sgt. Warren Foster went above and beyond his duties when he delivered a baby last month.
Foster received a call during his graveyard shift Nov. 27 with the news that local resident Sandy Camphuysen was ready to deliver her baby boy, according to a news release.
Arriving before the ambulance at 2:26 a.m., Foster came to the rescue just in time to deliver Kaiden James, a 6-pound, 3-ounce, 18-1/2 inch healthy baby.
“There’s a lot of things we do in police work, but I’ve been a cop for 41 years, and I’ve never delivered a baby,” Lt. Dave Caron with the Springville Department of Public Safety told KSL.com “[Foster] told me the baby was ready to come when he got there and it was over really quick.”
Caron now jokingly calls Warren “Doc.”
“It was like delivering an early Christmas present,” Foster said in the news release. “It was a great honor to be able to help little Kaiden.”
Foster, a father of four and a grandfather of two, said holding babies is like second nature.
Camphuysen and baby Kaiden are doing well, Foster said.
