RIVERTON — A 20-year-old Utah County woman died Saturday and several other people were injured in a car crash at the intersection of Redwood Road and Bangerter Highway.

The accident happened shortly after 4 p.m. when a Hyundai Sonata traveling north on Redwood Road apparently ran a red light and was hit by a Pontiac Grand Prix.

“According to witnesses, the driver of the Pontiac Grand Prix had a green light to go eastbound on Bangerter Highway and the driver of the Hyundai Sonata had a red light and passed through that red light,” said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.

The driver of the Hyundai — later identified as Taylor Zimmerman, 20, of Lehi — was transported to University Hospital in extremely critical condition, where she later died, Hoyal said. A 10-month-old boy in the backseat her car suffered minor injuries, he said.

The 28-year-old female driver of the Pontiac was transported to Intermountain Medical Center in serious condition, Hoyal said, and an 11-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital in fair condition. A 5-year-old girl also in the Pontiac was treated at the scene and released, he said.

“Right now, there’s no evidence of alcohol or drugs being a factor in this crash,” Hoyal said. “However, as the investigation is ongoing one of the things the investigators do look at is speed.”

The intersection remained closed Saturday evening as police investigated the crash.
