SOUTH JORDAN — An 18-year-old woman who police say was drunk and street racing when her pickup crashed into another vehicle and rolled, causing serious injuries, was charged Friday.

The woman, according to charging documents, had already had her license suspended for a prior incident of drinking and driving, according to court records.

Haylee Lyn Sloan, of Taylorsville, was charged in 3rd District Court with five counts of DUI, two third-degree felonies and three class A misdemeanors; and consumption of alcohol by a minor, reckless driving, and driving on a suspended license, all class B misdemeanors.

On Nov. 1, Sloan had "four or five shots of whiskey" before getting behind the wheel of a pickup truck, according to charging documents. Police would later determine her blood-alcohol level was 0.17, more than twice the legal limit for adults. People under 21 are not allowed to have any alcohol in Utah.

They began racing at speeds of about 95 mph.

Sloan and three others were in a Dodge pickup truck when another pickup pulled up beside them and asked if they wanted to race, according to charging documents.

"They began racing at speeds of about 95 mph," the charges stated.

Near 9600 South and Redwood Road, Sloan attempted to swerve out of the way of a slower moving SUV in front of her but instead smashed into the vehicle's back end.

All four people in the pickup were in the front seat. The three passengers were not wearing seat belts, according to police.

The pickup rolled several times, ejecting one of the passengers. One girl in the truck suffered a broken collarbone. A boy ejected from the vehicle suffered a broken eye socket, broken nose and other injuries. Another boy suffered neck and back injuries, according to court records.

A mother and daughter in the SUV suffered whiplash and a minor arm injury, according to the charges.

It was unclear Friday if police had found the driver of the other pickup that was racing.

According to court records, Sloan took a plea in abeyance in West Valley Justice Court in August to careless driving and operating a vehicle on a suspended license and was ordered to complete traffic school, according to court records.
