SALT LAKE CITY — Police are searching for a man who robbed a Chase Bank while wearing a fake orange beard Wednesday night.

Just before 7 p.m., the man walked up to a teller at the Chase Bank located inside the Smith’s store in Millcreek Township at 3215 S. Valley St. and presented a coupon before lifting his shirt, displaying a black semi-automatic handgun in his waistband and saying he wanted money, according to Unified police Lt. Justin Hoyal.

The bank was about to close and the man “kind of hung out at the front of the store for a minute” prior to approaching the teller and acting as if he were completing a transaction, Hoyal said.

The man fled on foot in an “unknown direction,” Hoyal said. He is described as white and in his mid-to-late 20s or early 30s with a medium build.

The man was wearing blue jeans, a gray hoodie and black and yellow fingerless work gloves in addition to the fake beard.

Hoyal said the man should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about the man or the robbery is asked to contact the Unified Police Department at 801-743-7000.

A robbery occurred at the same bank a few weeks ago, Hoyal said. Detectives are reviewing the information they have to determine if the man is connected to any other crimes or robberies.
