SALT LAKE CITY — Thanksgiving is a time of reflection on the good things we have in our life. It's also a time to pay that goodness forward or thank those who have shared some kindness with you.

We try to share that goodness every week, but can't help having an extra spirit of gratitude with this installment of our Make Your Week column.

On giving back for a job well-done

Kendra P.

"My husband went to lunch with his friend, who is also a co-worker as a mechanic. On their way in they passed a loyal customer of theirs eating his lunch and both said 'hi' to him. As they were ordering their food, the man came up and paid for their meals. He is also one that often tips them when they service his vehicles. He sure made my husband's day!"

Responding with kindness

Miranda W.

"I was pregnant and flying home for a family emergency with my 10-month-old and 2 1/2-year-old. I was so stressed and overburdened with luggage. When I found my seat, the man next to me got very uncomfortable and visibly annoyed. A man I had passed a few rows ahead of me asked the flight attendant if we could switch seats. He had an entire row to himself.

"I was so grateful for the switch. We happened to be on the same connecting flight. It was a fairly empty flight, so I, once again, got my own row. The gentleman also got his own row right in front of us. He told us about his first grandchild on the way, and entertained my 2-year-old the entire flight. He helped me carry my children and my luggage all the way through the airport and waited for my ride with me. I could scarcely thank him enough as my eyes welled with tears. I would have never made it through those flights without him."

Helping someone in a sticky situation

Aaron D.

"I was stopped to get a drink and a snack at my local gas station. I noticed that a man locked his keys in his car. I opened a safe a few days ago, had the tools I used still in my car, so I helped him out got the door open and he was ever so grateful."

On coming together

Alisha T.

"As I was going to work a few days ago I realized I had a flat tire. I pulled over on a side street and called a family member to come help me. I had to get to work, so they took me to work, and went to work on getting my tire fixed.

"While they were trying to get my tire off, a man down the street saw what was going on and came to help. What a great person to help a stranger."

At giving extra customer service

Val G.

"While recently visiting Black Island Farms in Syracuse for their Halloween festivities and corn maze we found ourselves pretty hungry. We decided to buy a scone with honey butter and share it. We paid for one scone. Much to our surprise the lady handed us two giant scones and said, 'There are a lot of things you can share but these scones just aren't one of them.' "

"She was right they were so good and no one wanted to share! We were really surprised and so happy for her extra kindness."
