Montana beats Montana State to qualify for FCS playoffs

OGDEN — The Montanas are headed to the FCS playoffs.

Both Montana and Montana State are headed to the FCS playoffs after the Grizzlies beat the Bobcats at home 34-7. The Grizzlies held a 27-0 lead until Montana State finally got on the board in the fourth quarter. Montana quarterback Jordan Johnson passed for 313 yards and three touchdowns in the game.

Former Weber State coach Jody Sears led Sacramento State to a 41-30 victory over rival UC-Davis in the final game of the season. Hornets quarterback Garrett Safron threw for four touchdowns in the game.


Both Montana and Montana State qualify for the FCS playoffs.

Eastern Washington beat Portland State 56-34, but the Eagles will not qualify for the FCS playoffs. EWU quarterback Vernon Adams passed for 309 yards and two touchdowns.

Other scores include Cal Poly blowing out San Diego 34-3. The Mustangs rushed for 341 yards in the win. Also, Idaho State beat Weber State 46-28. Bengals quarterback Justin Arias threw for 322 yards and three touchdowns in the game.

Southern Utah upset Northern Arizona, beating the Lumberjacks 22-14. The Thunderbirds rushed for 166 yards, and quarterback Ammon Olsen passed for 298 yards.

The FCS playoffs begin this week. Montana hosts San Diego, while Montana State hosts South Dakota State.
