SALT LAKE CITY — A police officer was injured during an apprehension Thursday.

A Salt Lake City police officer was making a routine pedestrian stop near 200 South just before 9:30 a.m. when a man falsely identified himself, then fled on foot, Lt. Scott White with the Salt Lake City Police Department said.

The officer chased him on foot, then got in his car and continued to follow him to Rio Grande on 300 South, White said.

Three officers arrived on scene and tackled the man through a glass door, and one of the officers and the man each sustained lacerations in their hands, White said.

The injured officer and the man were treated on scene, and police took the man into custody for fleeing, White said.

Once the man is identified, police will determine if he has any additional warrants, White said.
