SALT LAKE CITY — A University of Utah student who works at the Campus Store was critically injured when her scarf was caught in a conveyor belt Wednesday morning.
Around 11:30 a.m., the woman’s scarf was caught while she was putting a box of merchandise on a conveyor belt in the back loading area of the store to send it downstairs, according to a statement from the University of Utah. The woman tried to remove the scarf as it tightened around her neck, but injured her hand as she did.
Other employees were alerted to the situation when the conveyor belt stopped, and they worked to cut her free.
Emergency responders found the woman “passed out” and — along with bystanders — performed CPR on her, according to Salt Lake fire spokesman Jasen Asay.
The woman became conscious and was breathing before she was transported to University Hospital, Asay said.
