MANHATTAN, Kansas — Southern Utah men’s basketball opened its season Friday night in what ended up being a one-sided win for Kansas State, but not before the Thunderbirds’ John Marshall inadvertently provided the highlight of the game.
With just more than four minutes remaining, Marshall, a sophomore from Phoenix, stole an inbounds pass that he thought he’d convert into a layup.
Instead, the Wildcats’ Brandon Bolden met him at the rim and the result wasn’t pretty for Marshall. Bolden absolutely erased the attempt and stared Marshall down as he lay on the floor.
Adding to the moment, it appears that Marshall looks to the official for a possible foul after the play, but he simply shrugs back.
It’s not as though Marshall played poorly. He finished the night tied for the third-most points scored by a Southern Utah player with seven and dished out a team-high six assists.
He did, however, lead to the creation of a viral Vine video, which had already been looped more than seven million times by Saturday afternoon.
