Ansah helps Detroit to close win over Miami

SALT LAKE CITY — Former BYU defensive standout Ezekiel Ansah has been going through a sophomore slump this season.

A year after posting massive numbers, Ansah has had to deal with increased attention from opponents. However, the return of a former college teammate to the Detroit lineup helped the former Cougar have his best game of the season when the Lions beat the Miami Dolphins, 20-16, Sunday.

Ansah finished with six tackles and a sack in the game, while former teammate Kyle Van Noy played his first game of the season for Detroit and recorded two tackles. BYU alumnus Brett Keisel also tallied two tackles and a sack for the Pittsburgh Steelers in a 20-13 loss to the New York Jets.

The Utah alumni were led by Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith, who passed 177 yards and also scored the game-winning touchdown in a 17-13 win over Buffalo.


Former BYU linebacker Kyle Van Noy made two tackles in his NFL debut with the Detroit Lions.

Sean Smith made two tackles for the Chiefs' in the win, while Steve Smith caught three passes for Baltimore in the Ravens’ 21-7 win over Tennessee.

Koa Misi made six tackles for Miami in the loss to Detroit, and Derrick Shelby also contributed a tackle for the Dolphins. Paul Soliai made a tackle for Atlanta in a 27-17 loss to Tampa Bay. Pittsburgh’s Brice McCain made four tackles in the loss to the Jets, and Paul Kruger made two tackles for the Cleveland Browns in the win over the Cincinnati Bengals, 24-3.

Utah State alumnus Jarrett Bush made three tackles for Green Bay in the Packers' lopsided victory over the Chicago Bears, 55-14. Also, Robert Turbin rushed for 32 yards in the Seattle Seahawks’ 38-17 win over the New York Giants.
