The Herriman Mustangs are one step closer to displaying the emotion of happiness, after demolishing West 41-10 in the first round of the 5A playoffs.
Herriman advances to face West in the next round.
Running back Niua Mahe, who scored three touchdowns in the game, opened the game’s scoring with a three-yard run. Herriman’s Kayden Strasters also scored on a 33-yard run, giving the Mustangs a 14-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Mahe scored his second touchdown of the game in the second quarter, on a 12-yard scamper into the end zone. A West field goal brought the halftime score to 21-10.
However, it was all Mustangs in the second half as both Mahe and Hayward scored touchdowns in the third quarter, with Braydon Kener scoring in the fourth quarter.
The Mustangs will face Bingham in the second round.
