CEDAR CITY — A man accused of shooting and killing a Cedar City man earlier this week has been charged with aggravated murder.

Angelo Seth Carrasco, 34, was charged Thursday in 5th District Court with aggravated murder, a capital offense, as well as aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony, and aggravated assault, a third-degree felony.

Police said Carrasco shoved his way into a home at 179 E. 575 North on Tuesday and shot Shawn Leroy Multine, 45, with a rifle. Paramedics declared Multine dead at the scene.

Carrasco also pushed a woman as he entered the building and pointed the firearm at another man living in the home, chasing the man and threatening to kill him, Cedar City police said.

About 30 minutes later, police made phone contact with a woman who was with Carrasco at KB Express, 734 S. Main. Police arrived and arrested him at the convenience store without further incident.

Carrasco has a lengthy criminal history that includes several violent episodes, according to court records. In 2012, he pleaded no contest to forgery. In 2011, he was convicted of attempted aggravated assault in one case and assault in another, and sentenced to up to five years in prison.

In 2008, Carrasco was convicted of interfering with an arrest. He served more prison time for convictions in 2005 and 2000 for assault by a prisoner. His 2000 case also included a conviction of witness tampering, according to court records. In 1998, he was convicted of burglary.

Carrasco has been in and out of prison frequently since 2002. He was paroled in 2004, sent back in 2005, paroled again in 2007 and returned to prison in 2008, according to Utah State Prison officials.

After several more return visits, he was last released from prison on March 25 after serving time for a parole violation.
