SALT LAKE CITY — Walt Disney Animation Studios announced the arrival of a girl named Moana in a new CG-animated film hitting theaters in late 2016.
"Moana," directed by Ron Clements and John Musker ("The Little Mermaid" and "Aladdin"), features a passionate teenager embarking on a journey to fulfill her ancestors' quest, according to Variety.
Set in the ancient South Pacific world called Oceania, Moana meets her hero, the demi-god Maui, and they navigate the open seas "encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore," Disney's blog reported.
“Moana is indomitable, passionate and a dreamer with a unique connection to the ocean itself,” Musker said, according to Variety “She’s the kind of character we all root for, and we can’t wait to introduce her to audiences.”
