CHANGSHA, China — Pumpkin is all the rage in stores right now, but the U.S. isn’t the only country where large amounts of the squash are being consumed.
A total of 40 chefs recently worked together to make a giant pumpkin pie that weighed about 1,800 pounds in Changsha, China, according to CNC News. They used two excavators to spread a thick paste made of steamed pumpkin, flour and sugar on an exceptionally large pan heated by eight burners.
The resulting pie, which was baked in the middle of a theme park called Windows of the World, had a diameter of about 14 feet, Shanghaiist reported. However, the pie didn’t set a Guinness World Record — the title of largest pumpkin pie still belongs to a 20-feet-in-diameter dessert cooked at the New Bremen Pumpkinfest in Ohio in 2010.
The pumpkins used in the Chinese recipe were apparently surplus from local farmers. Leftovers from the pie were sent to a local children’s welfare center, according to CNC.
