The body of a large 5x5 bull elk was located by an officer from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources on Oct. 11 after the agency received a tip, according to officials. They estimated the animal was shot and killed between Oct. 4 and 10, which was at the beginning of the spike-only season.
The entire bull elk was left to waste in the Southwest Desert limited-entry hunting area, near Four Mile Spring, according to the DWR.
Those with information about the poaching can contact the DWR at 1-800-662-3337. A poaching-reward permit on the Southwest Desert limited-entry elk unit is available for information that leads to the prosecution of the person responsible for poaching the bull elk.
