Cal Poly victory over Sacramento State highlights week in Big Sky

Cal Poly’s triple-option attack finds ways to work, and the Mustangs used that attack to come back from a 10-point deficit to beat Sacramento State, 56-27, on the road.

The Mustangs, who moved to 3-1 in conference play with the victory, rushed for 393 yards and forced three Sacramento State turnovers.

Other scores from this week’s action in the Big Sky included Idaho State’s 56-28 victory over Southern Utah.

The Bengals held a 35-28 lead over the Thunderbirds at the start of the fourth quarter, but scored 21 points in the fourth to put the game out of reach.

Also, Montana improved to 3-0 in conference play with a 42-28 win over UC-Davis. The Grizzlies’ Jordan Canada rushed for 151 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

Also, Montana State downed Weber State, 23-13.

Northern Arizona narrowly edged Portland State when the Lumberjacks’ fourth-quarter touchdown gave them a 21-17 road win over the Vikings. Also, Eastern Washington improved to 4-0 in conference with a 26-18 win over Northern Colorado.

Conference match-ups this coming week include Weber State hosting Portland State; North Dakota traveling to Cedar City to face Southern Utah; and Idaho State traveling to Northern Colorado. Also, Montana travels to California to face Cal Poly; and Eastern Washington travels for a road game at Northern Arizona.
