Eastern Washington narrowly defeats Idaho State in Big Sky's week 6

OGDEN — Eastern Washington football is used to contending for Big Sky championships.

On the other hand, Idaho State football is used to scraping for wins. However, the Bengals took the Eagles to the limit in week six of the season as Eastern Washington outlasted Idaho State, 56-53.

Idaho State quarterback Justin Arias threw for 421 yards and six touchdowns, while Eastern Washington quarterback Vernon Adams threw for 354 yards and four touchdowns.

The Bengals and Eagles weren’t the only Big Sky teams to play a high-scoring game. Montana State and Sacramento State traded a contest void of defense, with the Bobcats prevailing over the Hornets 59-56. Montana State quarterback Dakota Prukop passed for 348 yards and five touchdowns. He also rushed for two touchdowns, including a 49-yard score.


Idaho State quarterback Justin Arias passed for 421 yards and six touchdowns.

Cal Poly outlasted Southern Utah in another offensive duel. The Mustangs scored 14 points in the fourth quarter to beat the visiting Thunderbirds 42-39. Cal Poly used a triple-option attack to rush for 452 yards.

Not all of the conference’s games were high-scoring affairs. Montana outlasted North Dakota 18-15, despite North Dakota scoring all 15 points in the fourth quarter. Also, Portland State beat UC-Davis 23-14. Also, Northern Colorado outlasted Northern Arizona 24-17.

Week seven matchups include Weber State hosting Cal Poly for the Wildcats’ homecoming, Eastern Washington traveling to Southern Utah, and Portland State traveling to face North Dakota.
