SALT LAKE CITY — Police are searching for a man after he stole cigarettes from a Salt Lake City store for a second time.

The robbery occurred Tuesday at the Family Dollar at 50 N. 900 West around 3:30 p.m., according to Salt Lake City police Detective Richard Chipping.

A man entered the business and attempted to steal several packs of cigarettes. An employee saw the man and recognized him from a previous theft where cigarettes had been stolen, Chipping said.

The employee confronted the man and attempted to stop him from leaving the store, but the man indicated he had a gun and the employee “backed off and let the person go,” Chipping said. He was seen leaving the store on foot, heading eastbound.

The robber was described as a black male in his late 30s or early 40s, around 5 feet 8 inches and 180 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes and facial hair.

Anyone with information about the robbery can contact the Salt Lake City Police Department at 801-799-3000.
