PROVO — After a debacle that left many fans stranded following a recent BYU football game, the Utah Transit Authority is extending bus and train service before and after this week's football game against Utah State University.

Following the game at LaVell Edwards Stadium on Friday, Oct. 3, UTA announced it will run an extra northbound FrontRunner train, in addition to its regular service. The train will depart once the last bus from the stadium arrives at the Provo FrontRunner Station.

In an effort to accommodate fans heading to the event, UTA will also run extra route 830 buses from the Provo FrontRunner Station beginning two hours prior to kickoff. The extra buses at the Provo Station will be staged on the east side of the bus loop.

After the game, extra buses will be staged on Canyon Road near the stadium to take fans back to Provo FrontRunner Station. Passengers should board the bus within 30 minutes after the game ends.

UTA will continue to provide added service prior to future Saturday BYU games, said spokesman Remi Barron. Extra route 830 buses from the Provo FrontRunner Station and from the Timpanogos Transit Center will be offered beginning two hours prior to kickoff, he said. The extra buses at the Provo Station will be staged on the east side of the bus loop, while buses at the Timpanogos Transit Center will be on the south side of the bus loop.

Additionally, following future Saturday BYU games, FrontRunner trains will run their normal schedule. If there is an evening Saturday game scheduled, an extra late train will be provided as needed, Barron explained. All postgame buses will be staged on Canyon Road just south of the stadium.

“Passengers traveling to the Provo Station will board buses facing southbound on Canyon Road,” Barron said. “Passengers boarding buses to the Timpanogos Transit Center will board buses facing northbound on Canyon Road.”

If necessary, the last three trains on Saturday may be extended to Ogden to provide service for those attending BYU football games from Weber County or other nearby areas, he noted.
